“Sonniuswijk, Son, September 17, 1944.
Pvt. Bernard M. Nakla from Seattle, Washington, gives gum to a little Dutch girl after landing behind the German lines in The Netherlands during Operation Market Garden. ‘

The return home. After spending the previous three years as a prisoner of war, Gunner Hector Murdoch arrives home to his wife Rosina and his son John. October 15, 1945.

The children were aorund the age of 3 years old and would entertain the Americans by playing games and dancing. In return, “The Americans were crazy about our children” stated Sister Marie Pascale, who is also in the photo.

On this day 75 years ago, May 8, 1945, the German forces surrendered to the Allies, ending the war in Europe.

“Then and now:
Forrest Guth, Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, U.S. 101st Airborne Division at the Marmion Farm near Ravenoville, Normandy, on June 6th, 1944. About 65 years later, Forrest Guth went back to the same place where he posed for the camera with his captured German helmet like he did in 1944.”
